Belthangady, July 29, 2014:  Reports received say that, Shobhita (19), daughter of Santappa Poojary from Adarsh Nagar in Belalu village,a second year degree student of Punjalakatte government first grade college,  reportedly had left home saying she would return after watching television programme in a neighbouring house; was found floating in a well not far from her home on the night of Sunday July 27. It was stated, Shobhita  left home about 6.30 pm, to  watch TV at a nearby house only an aged lady was alone in that house, it is learnt. After watching television, she is said to have left the house. It is pointed that an accident theory is not convincing due to several reasons.

A complaint was filed by Keshava Poojary, brother of Shobhita, a case was registered by  police at the town station. The complaint indicates Shobita could have slipped and fallen into the well accidentally.  Poojary said in his complaint that the family went in search of the girl, as she did not return after watching television. The body was seen floating in the well of a house belonging to a neighbour, one Sanjeeva Acharya. Although it is suspected that she may have fallen into the well other causes are not ruled out.

The surprising fact is  girl’ body was floating in water, although it could have been a short while only after her death. Little water was found in Shobhita’s stomach which may not be normal if she drowned in the well. The police questioned a person from the village without results. It is said a postmortem was conducted and investigations are on.
