Housing issue at taluk panchayat meet

Udupi, Mar 23, 2015:   The  housing issues for the poor consumed  the general body meeting of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat.  Devadas Hebbar, a  member, pointed that though the beneficiaries of the Basava Vasati Yojana had built their houses, some of them had not got even the first monetary instalment.   Some beneficiaries found that money to their bank accounts were blocked. There was no officer in Udupi taluk to oversee  implementation.

Krishnananda, Executive Officer, said that officer concerned for Basava Vasati scheme had resigned citing personal reasons. The officer from Kundapur taluk for the same scheme was holding additional charge of Udupi taluk. He would check bank accounts that were blocked, he said.    Hebbar again poited out that all 61 gram panchayats in the taluk had stopped issues building licences citing High Court orders. This had brought construction to a standstill in the taluk, he said. The EO said that this problem was not unique to gram panchayats in Udupi taluk, but to all gram panchayats in the State.   It can be solved only by  higher interventions.
