Lightning kills two in as many incidents

Mangalore, Oct 28, 2014: Lightning killed two persons in as many incidents in Belthangady taluk on Monday evening.

At around 5 p.m., Kumari Baby (28) was walking to a grocery store in Savanoor, Belthangady taluk, when lightning struck her, said the Belthangady police. She collapsed and died while being taken to a hospital.

Around the same time, Ashok (24), who was sitting on the verandah of his house at Patrame village, Belthangady taluk, was struck by lightning, said the Uppinangadi police. He too died.

Bodies found

The bodies of two persons, who were washed ashore at Malpe beach on Saturday, were found on Monday morning.

According to the Kaup police, the bodies of Sunil Rao (33), a resident of Sanur nearby, and his nephew Harsha (14), who studies in a school in Bangalore, were found on the beach. The duo had gone with their family for a swim on Saturday.

Gold ornaments stolen

Gold ornaments, cumulatively worth around Rs. 5 lakh, were reported stolen from a house in Badagubettu village, Udupi on Monday. According to the Udupi Town Police, Jerald Martis and his wife had locked their house and left town on Sunday. When they returned on Monday, they found the front door had been broken and cupboards ransacked.
