Mangaluru gets good response for it’s first triathlon

Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2015 :   The first triathlon organised by city-based Ground Sports Fitness saw an enthusiastic participation with several enthusiasts as well as professionals taking part.  Triathlon is a multiple-stage competition of three continuous and sequential endurance races. Swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession over various distances.

This triathlon started with cycling from Nanthoor to Tannirbhavi Beach and back, followed by running, and then swimming at Eden Aquatics and Sports Club.

The event was divided into two categories – Sprint Triathlon and Amateur Triathlon. Sprint Triathlon comprised of swimming of 750 m, cycling of 20 km and running of 5 km. Amateur Triathlon comprised of swimming of 250 m, cycling of 10 km and running of 2.5 km.

There were over 60 participants of varying age groups. Anup Shetty won the first place (1 hour 26 minutes) closely followed by Ashwin D’ Silva at the second place (1 hour 28minutes) in the sprint category.

Among girls, Ashel D’Silva and Sinchana Gowda took the lead.

The triathlon was an initiative by Ground Sport Fitness to spread awareness on the benefits of an active lifestyle. Participants have been training for the triathlon for the past four weeks to condition their bodies for the event under the supervision of Suraj Shetty, Head Coach, at Ground Sport Fitness.

The gym conducts regular sessions on functional training which is a balanced, total-body fitness programme and often encompasses high intensity interval training.
