Neelavara-Kooradi bridge not yet in sight

Mangalore Today News Network

Brahmavar, April 23, 2015: Elected representatives had assured  of a connecting bridge between Neelavara and Kooradi yet to be fulfilled, the people are still hopeful for the bridge, which is a long pending demand in the region.

It widely has been said that the bifurcation of the legislative assembly constituency has been the reason for the delay in the work of the bridge. After the bifurcation, one end of Seetha river is one constituency and other end of the river is another. There is no coordination between the MLAs of the two constituencies.

Kooradi, which falls in the limit of Hanehalli Gram Panchayat in Barkur which is a part of Kundapur constituency while Neelavar in Kunjal Gram Panchayat limits has gone to Udupi constituency. Seetha river is flowing between two constituencies now.

Bridges for Seetha river have been built at Kokkarne, Barkur and Mabukala. The people of Barkur and Mandarthi have to come to Brahmavar to go to Neelavar.   Due to lack of a bridge the people of Kooradi have to traverse a distance of 30 kms to reach Kunjalu in Neelavar.

A bridge can provide the villagers of Cherkadi, Pethri and Kunjalu a direct route to Mandarthi and Barkur while people of Barkur, Bandimutt and Kooradi can have the nearest link to Neelavar, Panchamikana and the nearby areas. The places like Barku and Neelavar are known as religious places, where a huge number of devotees visit. The bridge will also a be a great help to farmers, in transporting and selling their products easily.

Villagers of Kooradi say that though Kundapur MLA Shrinivas Shetty made efforts for a bridge construction, owing to lack of cooperation it did not succeed. Neelavar villagers complain that Udupi MLA Madhwaraj has not taken any steps towards implementing the work on the bridge though mentioned in his election manifesto.

The people stated that the former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde said  the project was in the tender process and was carried out under MP road development fund at a budget of Rs 9 crore. But, there are no signs of any work the villagers said.   The people want both the MLAs to draw the attention of the government urgently on the need for the bridge and stem further delays.
