Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 17, 2014: In the first place,  no strong laws to benefit the upliftment of labourers working in the unorganised sector exist then even few laws are not applied at all. Though there are more than 60 crore labourers in the country, only seven per cent of them have fixed salary. It means 93 pc of labourers are in unorganised sector, said Bharathiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) National General Secretary Virjesh Upadhyaya.

He was presiding over the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district workers’ conference organised by BMS, as a part of its 60th anniversary, at Sanghanikethan here recenly.

The government at Centre has started changing the labour laws. unfortunately it is removing even the existing benefit for the workers to support the industries. We won’t allow politics to enter into the organisation,  he said. A nation-wide movement of labourers has been called on November 24.

Upadhyaya pointed out that the main reason behind the problems faced by workers is negligence of labour laws. The problems of the labourers should be solved through discussions. Bharathiya Mazdoor Sangh, Dakshina Kannada District President Vishwanath Shetty also spoke and many participants were present .
