Mangaluru, Feb 02, 2016: A letter to MPs B S Yeddyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje,  the Mookambika Railway Yatri Sangha, Byndoor, has impressed upon them that five new trains and extension of six trains in the Railway Budget are vital.   Sangha President Venkatesh Kini urged the MPs to impress upon the Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu to start the new trains.

The new trains demanded by the Sangha are- Mangaluru Central - New Delhi Express via Madgaon-Nagpur-Mathura; Mangaluru Central - Hubballi via Madgaon - Londa; Subrahmanya Road - Mumbai Express; Mangaluru Central - Ahmedabad Express; and Mangaluru Central - Mumbai Central via Vasai Road.

The trains which need to be extended: Vasco Da Gama - Howrah Amaravati Express up to Mangaluru Central; Mangaluru - Madgaon Intercity Express up to Mumbai CST; Yeshwantpur - Karwar Day Express up to Mysuru; Hapa - Madgaon Express up to Mangaluru Central; Mangaluru Junction - CST Mumbai Express up to Mangaluru Central; and Mookambika Road Byndoor - Kannur passenger up to Guruvayoor

In a memorandum, the Sangha has urged the Railways to increase in frequency of Mangaluru - Madgaon DMU train from six days in a week to daily service and Yeshwantpur - Karwar Express, from tri-weekly to daily.

Kini said the Union government should allocate funds for track doubling work between Thokur and Byndoor, electrification works between Thokur and Byndoor, upgrading Subrahmanya Road Station as a terminal station, and developing Udupi, Byndoor and Gokarna Road railway stations as model stations. The rail budget is in the offing.
