Police formulate guidelines to tackle civil issues

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug 03, 2015:   Faced with strong criticism from various quarters for their action in dealing with civil litigations, which have led to criminal cases, the latest being caste atrocity case against Sundara Malekudiya in Kataje village last month, DK district police is coming up with guidelines on how personnel should proceed in such matters.   On the side lines of the SC/ST meet on Aug 2,  organized by district police SP Sharanappa SD, stated  he  personally has come across cases where civil disputes have lingered on for more than eight decades.

This has caused a sense of frustration among the litigants over the delay and this leads to situations where the affected have taken the law in to their own hands.

The set of guidelines drafted in consultation with department of prosecution, advocates as well as experts in revenue matters including senior departmental officers. The focus of the guidelines will be to guide policemen on proceeding in civil issues based on facts and circumstances on hand, he said, adding this step is very much necessary given that people increasingly seek police intervention to settle matters.  SP  Sharanappa said the guidelines will hopefully help the police defend their stand in acting on any such issue.  The SP  adding police will be sensitized in dealing with the matters on set lines and not cause complications.
