Mangaluru, May 24, 2016: Speaking to media on May 23, Monday,  Advocate Ashoka Kumar Shetty said, residents of Nalkuru, Chara and Kalthuru will take out a protest rally in front of Brahmavar special tahsildar office today May 24, Tuesday against the administration’s approval for survey to set up a stone crusher unit in the area.

The district administration is going ahead with the approval though a PIL over the issue is pending before a court it was stated.

Advocate Ashoka Kumar Shetty claimed that the stone crusher unit is coming up on one acre of land. The region is a hub of biodiversity and also has many people residing in the surroundings. The area covers Jomlu Theertha, a natural wonder. Many wild animals nest in the region due to the reserve forest area nearby, he noted.

He said the dust emerging from the stone crusher unit will harm the environment in the area and will disturb  the health of people. It will also pollute Seethanadi river, which is used widely revered and flows nearby.

The advocate said blasting rocks using dynamites will create tremors within the layers of the earth resulting in formation of cracks in the walls of the houses. Fertile agricultural land here is the livelihood of the farmers in the area will be destroyed. Farmers are the main population here.

Advocate Shetty said the stone crusher unit is owned by gram panchayat member Naveen Adyantaya. He, with the influence of his party members, has influenced and got the approval from the deputy commissioner.

The district administration has for the second time given its consent to taken up the re-survey along with police protection on May 28. All the elected representatives, both from Congress and BJP, have turned a blind eye over the issue. .
