Mangalore, Sep 12, 2014: Chairing an executive committee meeting of district child labour project society, at his office in Mangalore on September 10,  Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, stated Child labour cases are being recorded frequently in the district, the department of labour needs to seek suggestions from general public towards the prevention of child labour.

Assistant labour welfare officer Nagesh said that during raids carried out on at least 620 organisations in the district, 15 children have been considered as suspected child labourers and on the basis of the certification of their age, seven have been found to be above 14 years.  The Deputy Commissioner directed to take measures to inform the apartment owners and shopkeepers to display a board in front of the buildings, indicting that no child labourers have been deployed to work in the place.

Employing children within the age of 14 is a crime and if it is found that children below this age are deployed to work in hotels, factories, garages, shops and commercial places, the owners of such establishments can be imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 - 20,000 and imprisonment for three months to one year.  Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the Childline number 1098 should be utilised by general public in order to rescue children from atrocities .
