Mangalore, Oct 31, 2014: Writer Chandrakala Nandavar said that the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy should carry out research work on folk literature in Beary language. She was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on Beary literature organised by the Academy at St Aloysius College in Mangalore.

She said that Folk literature in  Beary language and the literature should be passed on to the future generation. The Academy should bridge the gap between language and culture. They should establish the identity of the language. The word Beary represents the culture rather than a community  and added that women litterateurs in Beary language should be encouraged.

Kodagu district Kannada Sahitya Parishat Secretary and Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy member Shamshuddin Madikeri also spoke.    Academy President Mohammed Hanif presided over the programme. Convener Aliyabba, Poet Muhammed Baddur, Academy Registrar Umarabba were present. Professor in Kannada Dr Muralidhar Upadhya, litterateurs Shahad Bagalkot and Hamza Malar were the resource persons.  Chandrakala Nandavar released the book ‘Sahitya Sogadu’ written by Shabida.
