Udupi, Aug 1, 2014 :  The daughter-in-law of Savithramma, Srividya has decided to lodge a defamation suit against Human Rights Foundation (HRF) Udupi for projecting Savithramma as an orphan.

A development in the saga of Savithramma, the 86-year-old woman who had been confined to her home by her own son and later got relief by the intervention of court, has again put her in focus.  Srividya  told the media that the foundation has caused damage to the family reputation by citing false charges. She said that she is also a grand daughter of the aged woman. According to Srividya, Savithramma was looked after well. However, she stressed that she has no issue over AC court verdict directing the Tahsildar to reinstate the asset of Savithramma in her name as against her son Keshav.

Recap :  It may be realled, Savithramma, aged 86 years had approached the foundation against her fifth son Keshav Bhat, who started staying with her on the pretext of performing daily ‘pooja’ for the family deity. But after some time, Bhat has managed to transfer assets and property owned by Savithramma to his name.  After the death of her husband Gururaj Bhat some 14 years ago, Savithramma had distributed the inherited 50 cents of land among her eight children equally and was dwelling in her old house along with her youngest son Krishna Bhat. The old lady need not have to be dependent on her children as she was well provided. But two years ago, when Krishna Bhat went to Mumbai for employment, Keshava Bhat came to live with his mother. Following Keshava Bhat’s take over of the house, Savithramma was ill-treated and she was deprived of food. Many a times she had to go to Sri Krishna Temple for food. She also stopped taking food in the night. She was also confined to the house, as her son did not allow her other children or relatives to visit her. DH News Service
