School students protest garbage issues near the school

Udupi, Aug 1, 2014:  Students of Mukunda Kripa English Medium School in Kunjeebettu staged protest in front of the school demanding solution of the problems and punishment for those who dump garbage in front of the school premises. Students agitated by slogan shouting against the City Municipal Council authorities and officials for not addressing their problems. The CMC president and the members visited the spot and promised to initiate action.  Students said that the public throw garbage in front of the school, which creates foul smell and pollutes the surrounding environment unbearably.

The foul smell that emanates spreads across the school premises and causes much disturnance. This is  leading  to various diseases. Despite making continuous appeals to City Municipality Council to initiate action, there has been no use. The problem exists since nine years it was stated .  The students have decided to protest, as there was no response from the authorities in CMC regarding solution to the issues. Students wrote many letters to the CMC to initiate action against the offenders, who dump garbage in front of the school to no avail.

CMC President Yuvaraj, assured to take action. He said CCTV cameras will be put in front of the school, as public dump the garbage during night, hence it is difficult to nab them.   He added Terry, an NGO from Hyderabad will visit all 35 CMC wards along with the CMC councilors and officials to educate the households on solid waste management and issues relating to hygiene and sanitation.
