Snake bite may have killed 14 year old

Belthangady, May 28, 2015: According to Taluk Medical Officer Dr. Kalamadhu,  14-year-old boy Manojit, from Navoor near Indabettu village in Belthangady died of a snake bite at the Belthangady Government Hospital on May 27, Wednesday.

Manojit was bitten by a snake while he was walking in the agriculture field around 9 a.m. A passer-by found him unconscious in the field and informed the parents. They had problem in getting a vehicle in time and managed to bring the boy to the hospital only around 12 p.m. By then he had already succumbed to the bite.

Preliminary investigation has revealed it to be a cobra’s bite. The cause bite will be known after examination of viscera by a hospital in Hassan, Dr. Kalamadhu also said there was sufficient stock of serum in the hospital for snake bites. A physician was available at the Belthangady Hospital to attend to snake bite cases. A 20-year-old man, who had been bitten by a cobra a few days ago, had recovered now following  treatment at the Government Wenlock Hospital, he said. Dr. Rao said that snake bite victims need to reach nearby government hospital without delays.
