Start trains announced in Budget, says Sangha

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi , Nov 26, 2014:  The Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha has urged the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. to take the initiative to start the Kasaragod-Byndoor train and Bengaluru-Mangaluru train announced in the Railway Budget of 2014-15, as soon as possible.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, R.L. Dias, president of the sangha, said that a delegation had met the Regional Railway Manager of KRCL Bindu M. and discussed various issues with her on November 24. The delegation informed her that as per the timetable announced for the Kasaragod-Byndoor , it would not enter Mangalore Central Railway Station. Besides, there was a single railway track to Byndoor, which made change of engine difficult. Hence, this train should be converted into Diesel Multiple Unit.

The Bengaluru-Mangaluru (daytime) train , which was announced in the budget, had not started. Hence, all efforts should be made to start it soon.

The Mangaluru-Madgaon Intercity Superfast train was running 90 per cent empty. Its timing should be changed and it should be downgraded to an express train from superfast express, with the inclusion of five to six more stops.

The halts granted to four trains at Udupi Railway Station had been temporarily extended since October 1. This should be converted into a permanent arrangement. Seat quota should be allocated for these four trains.

A pre-paid taxi system should be introduced at Udupi Railway Station and Konkan Railway should be merged with Indian Railways. A survey should be conducted for an alternative railway line between Nandikur-Charmady-Mudigere, as soon as possible, he said.

Ms. Bindu assured the delegation that she would take action on the matters coming under the Konkan Railway and refer the remaining matters to other railway divisions concerned, the release added.
