State to approach Centre on MCF issue

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 18, 2014: The state government will request the union cabinet to ensure continued operations at Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers (MCF), said Minister for Agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda,  Speaking to mediaperson, he said that the Central government has to take a decision on the MCF. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will write a letter to the union government not to stop the production of urea with naptha-based unit in the MCF.

“I had met Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertiliser Ananth Kumar and has appealed to him not to close down MCF. The New Pricing Scheme for urea manufacturing units had urged the management to shift from napthabased unit to gas unit. Till the gas supply through gas pipeline is streamlined, the Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers should be allowed to continue with naptha-based production. While the MCF has taken steps and made investments for conversion, the GAIL failed to supply gas,” he said.
