Mangalore, March 1, 2014: Located on the banks of the river Rhine, the industrial city of Basel in Switzerland is also one of its most important cultural centers. For a Mangalorean visiting this great city in the heart of Europe, it would come as a great and pleasant surprise that one of the most popular Indian eateries around is run by a fellow Mangalorean. And this man is none other than Jayesh Kumar, owner of Jay’s - the coolest Indian restaurant in Switzerland.
As a young boy Jayesh studied at St Aloysius School and College before migrating to greener pastures abroad, a quest which eventually led him to start Jay’s. His strategy to win the hearts of the Swiss has been simple: He maintains small menu of only select dishes, which changes on a weekly basis. This way, his regular guests can expect something new to enjoy on every visit! As he himself defines it: “Jay’s is a small Indian restaurant with big personality. When I first decided to open Jays Indian Food back in December 2000, I wanted to create a new dining experience in Indian cuisine. Today what makes us unique is the combination of Asian hospitality and European style.”
