Mangalore, March 10, 2014: If many of his peer group are leading a relaxed retired life, this gentleman has earned a doctorate at the age of 79. No mean achievement by any count. Krishnananda Hegde who was awarded a doctorate in History by Mangalore University during its 32nd Convocation held recently caught the attention of many for his great interest in research and his keenness and enthusiasm to study making him probably the first Indian to get a regular Ph.D at this age.
Hegde, an alumnus of MGM College, Udupi, is a former joint director of AIR, New Delhi. He has also served as Professor in Manipal University and TA Pai Management Institute also has experience as a career officer of Indian Information Service and Information Officer in PIB. Significant is the aspect that he got his doctorate almost 46 years after he did his post graduation in History from Karnataka University. He has put in at least five years of hard work in compiling his doctoral thesis on ‘Influence of ancient Indian healing arts on modern medicine.”
Presently, the Managing Editor of ‘Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes’ published from Mangalore, Hegde is also known for his book on ‘History of Bunts in Karnataka.’ His other works include ‘A New Look at Classical Greece, Bhagavad Gita: The Dialogue and Voices at Dusk.
Interestingly, his Ph.D guide Dr KM Lokesh of Mangalore University was the same age as his son and Dr Hegde says working on Ph.D thesis helped in keeping his mind active. Dr Krishnanand Hegde’s achievement is indeed inspiring.
