One such outstanding personality is Y Sudhir Kumar Shetty, presently Chief Operating Officer, Global Operations  of UAE Exchange, the leading global  remittance and foreign exchange brand.

From an organization with four branches in the UAE in 1991, Sudhir Shetty has led the entire entity to emerge into a global player with over 700 branches in 31 nations, the  largest networked brand in its class in a span of over two decades.

Today UAE Exchange under the leadership of Sudhir Shetty has reached the pinnacle of success with high quality service, spread over 17 countries, 374 offices with over 6000 employees. Currently, the company has 1.65 million registered card holders in the UAE alone. UAE Exchange serves over 6.5 million expatriate customers, worldwide, handling 6% of the total global remittances and Sudhir Shetty has been instrumental in building strong bonds with the various expatriate communities, including a large percentage of Indians, who trust the brand for its quality services and professional customer care.

Beyond doubt he has been instrumental in  streamlining the remittance and foreign exchange segment in UAE in particular. Shetty is also the founding member of Foreign Exchange and Remittance  Group (FERG) a regulatory body for remittance and exchange houses in UAE.

His beginning was humble. He hails from Yenmakaje, a remote village in Kasargod district.Sudhir’s father  Vorvady Timmappa Shetty, a district education officer  had expired even before he was born. His mother Kalavathi Shetty was a housewife.

Sudhir studied in Perla Lower Primary School upto III standard. He had to walk for four miles every day to reach  his school. Later he studied at SN High School Perla upto  SSLC. After SSLC, he studied PUC at St Aloysius College. Initially, Sudhir who wanted to opt for Commerce had to take up Science Stream as no seat was available in the Commerce section. But, he was lucky enough as three weeks after the college commenced,the principal summoned him and offered him a commerce seat which was vacant after five  students withdrew their admissions. He later completed his B.Com in first class and enrolled for chartered accountancy. In the meantime, he also joined SDM Law College in Mangalore to pursue law. After studies, Sudhir worked as  lecturer in accountancy costing  and income tax for some time.

Later, when he had plans to go abroad in search of greener pastures,  he met BR Shetty, Chairman of NMC Group and that proved the turning point in his career as well as life. BR Shetty offered him a job of internal auditor at NMC Group and  within a few years Sudhir  scaled the heights of success and marched to higher levels in the company thanks to his dynamic leadership and administrative skills. Under his leadership, an in-house IT development project was imitated, which today has resulted in enabling money transfer from any UAE Exchange outlet to anywhere in the world in a matter of a few seconds.

Sudhir Shetty who has excellent knowledge of a range of subjects is known for his oratory talent. Recently, he was even bestowed the Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award by his alma mater St. Aloysious College in Mangalore. Other awards that have come his way are Global Personality Award, Mayura Award, Akshaya Global Award and Vishwamaanya Award. The UAE Exchange too has won several coveted awards under his leadership.

IHappily married to Sheela, the couple is blessed with two daughters. Sudhir Shetty has proved that  focus on hard work, incorporation of latest technology, effective use of manpower, coupled with creativity can work wonders and earn success. Under his leadership business apart, the UAE Exchange has also emerged as one of the premier organizations supporting community and cultural activities.n
