Muscat November 30, 2010: The grand finale of the 23rd annual gathering of Oman Bunts, “Family Day,” was organized on Nov 26 at the Le Grande Hall of Al Falaj Hotel in Ruwi. The celebration had the delightful tinge of culture and tradition.

The entrance door was decorated with marigold flowers and mango leaves, and a beautiful Ganapathi-shaped rangoli surrounded by pots with floating flowers and candles and beautiful floral decorations on the floor greeting the members of Oman Bunts and the guests who attended the event.


The Family Day commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Mr. Navaneeth Shetty and Mr. Rathnakar Shetty, followed by an invocation to Lord Ganesha. Dr. Vijayalakshmi R. Shetty delivered the welcome and the introductory address. Navneeth Shetty, the deputy chief manager of Times of India, who had flown into Muscat on special invitation, was the comperer of the event. Dr. Vijayalakshmi R. Shetty was the anchor of the event, and the games were conducted by Mr. Rathnakar Shetty.


The cultural programme included 24 solo, duet, and group performances of song, dance, and music. The highlight of the event was a mimicry show by Naveen Shetty, a group musical mime, and several folk dances.


A formal stage programme followed the cultural programme, during which Mr. Navaneeth Shetty was formally introduced and honoured with a shawl and a memento by Mr. Rathnakar Shetty. The organizers also released Oman Bunts Festival 2010, a colorful glossy magazine comprising a brief review of the socio cultural life of the bunts. A copy was given to all the Bunts present at the programme.


The buffet comprised a wide range of vegetarian and non vegetarian items, sweets, rice dishes, and Kori Rotti. Besides, a wide range of biscuits, chips, juice, and water were served throughout the programme.


An imitation of Patanga, a chat show organized by Mr. Navneeth Shetty on Namma TV, formed the highlight of the event. The topic was “childhood,” and a number of participants spoke about their childhood.


Mrs. Veena S. Shetty proposed the vote of thanks and expressed her gratefulness to all sponsors and members of Oman Bunts who helped in successfully organizing the mega show. Prizes were distributed among the winners of the Sports Day, which was held on Oct 29, 2010, by senior members, sponsors, and Mr. Navaneeth Shetty.


Gifts were also given away to all those who participated in the cultural programme. Mementos were given to the volunteers who went the extra mile in making the event a success. Mr. Rathnakar Shetty presented a Rado watch with the glittering words “The 23rd Oman Bunt Gathering” marked on it to Mr. Navaneeth Shetty.
