Dubai, Feb 1, 2013: Art and culture lovers in Dubai enjoyed a mesmerizing cultural extravaganza as 80 student artistes from Alva’s institutions of Moodbidri presented a captivating programme as part of Alva’s Nudisiri Virasat at Al Nasr Leisure land Ice Rink, Dubai on January 31, Thursday evening.
The first of its kind event in Dubai was inaugurated by Dr BR Shetty, Managing Director of NMC Group.
Dr Shetty along with Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation and the brain behind Nudisiri Virasat, lighted the traditional lamp.
Dr Mohan Alva also spoke about Nudisiri which began in 2004 and held its ninth conference at Moodbidri in November last year. He also stated that the decennial Vishwa Nudisiri a ‘World Kannada Conference’ and ‘Vishwa Virasat’ cultural meet is scheduled to be held from December 19 to 22 this year at Moodbidri.
All sponsors, well-wishers and supporters were felicitated with mementoes on the occasion.
The artistes presented a variety of cultural programmes including folk dance, Navadurge Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri stick dance and Rajasthani folk dance. Purulia Lion dance, Lion dance from West Bengal, Kathak, a classical dance and Hoye Hoye, a Karnataka folk dance were also performed.
A short drama titled ’Dev Vaidyaru’ directed by Jeevan Ram Sullia and a Yakshagana show titled “Sriranga Vaibhava” were well appreciated. Vilas Nayak, an extremely talented artist painted portraits of Ravana from Ramayana, Padmashree Dr B R Shetty and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
The same were later auctioned.
