Dubai, Jan 23, 2012: Harish Sherigar, managing director of Acme Building Materials Trading LLC, was unanimously elected president of Devadiga Sangha Dubai (UAE) by members during a meeting at Fortune Plaza Hotel, Qusais Dubai on Friday January 20 to form their executive committee.

Devadiga Sangha would be completing 20 years this year and the celebrations will be held in May in a big way. It will be a day full of fun-filled entertainment by the rich talent brigade of the community. Prominent educationalists and personalities from the community from back home will be the chief guests. A picnic has also been planned on February 3, so that all the enthusiastic members could meet and discuss the upcoming events.

Senior members Anand Devadiga, Harischandra Devadiga, B G Mohandas and Narayan M Devadiga who graced the meeting accepted the mantle of being advisors. They wished the newly-formed committee grand success and promised to extend full support to the upcoming programs.

Devadiga Sangha Dubai, UAE during the initial years had its gatherings in residences with 8 to 10 families and some bachelors
Formed in 1992, under the able guidance and vision of a few community elders the community has now grown to comprise more than 600 members. The aim of this non-profitable organization is solely to help the less fortunate community members back home and in this part of the desert land, irrespective of the region they come from.
The Sangha already has a scholarship fund of 6 lacs, set up in Mangalore where it is distributed to the needy students from all over the state. Computers were donated to the school run by the community. Apart from that a number of donation drives have been conducted to help people in distress here and to those who are suffering from medical reasons.
