Bahrain, Oct 2: The Bahrain leg of the semifinals of Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM), second edition, was held last weekend by the Mangalore Konkans Dubai. Austin Monteiro and Cynthia Latha D’Souza emerged as the winners and will participate in the grand finals of GVOM II, which will be held in Dubai on Oct 22, Friday.
The GVOM II anthem was also launched during the event. This anthem was written by Leslie Rego, composed by Claud D’Souza, and sung by the champion of GVOM I Vinay Lewis with Babitha D’Costa.
The Bahrain semifinal was organized by the Karavali Konkans Association under the leadership of Ronald D. F. D’Souza. Mr. John D’Souza delivered the welcome address. The chief guests of the event were Fr. Dinesh Mendonca and Fr. Freddie D’Souza, the parish priest and assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart Church in Bahrain. Leslie Rego compered the event. The judges were Claud D’Souza, Joel Pereira, and Reena Goveas from Mangalore.
The guests of honor were James Mendonca and Valerian Peris of Mangalore Konkans Dubai; Walter Nandalike, the editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com; and Cyril M. of National Hotels Company, Bahrain. They were felicitated by Ronald D. F. D’Souza, the president of the Karavali Konkans Association of Bahrain.
A body building show by Mr. World Raymond D’Souza was the highlight of the event. He was later honored and the title of “Karavali Konkanacho Suputhr” was bestowed on him.
Henry Castelino proposed the vote of thanks. He wished the winners Cynthia Latha D’Souza and Austin Monteiro all the best and expressed his appreciation of the other ten semifinalists—Freeda Sequeira, Nisha Lobo, Premitha Periera, Susan Miranda, Laveena Castelino, Allen Pinto, Sydney Correa, Richard Pais, Simon Vas, and Christopher Lobo.
