Dubai, Jan 18, 2020: Ministry of Education, Government of Gujarat with support from Consulate General of India, Dubai organized an international road show and exhibition under ’Study in Gujarat’ campaign at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai on January 17. The roadshow was inaugurated by Honourable Minister of Education, Government of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama in the presence of Consul General of India Shri Vipul and Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Govt. of Gujarat Smt. Anju Sharma.
Twenty two partner universities and four institutes in Gujarat provided information about the courses and curriculum of various institutes of Gujarat in the exhibition held parallelly along with the roadshow. Educators, principals, teachers, parents, and representatives from several schools and universities in Dubai were present in large numbers during the roadshow and exhibition. More than 700 students from various Indian schools of Dubai and Northern Emirates attended the exhibition.
In his inaugural address, Consul General Shri Vipul said, "It is for the first time that so many principals and teachers of Indian schools in Dubai have turned up under a single umbrella. I congratulate the government of Gujarat for making this event possible in order to enable the diaspora to witness the developments happening back in India and Gujarat. This event will provide a fruitful opportunity to students in UAE and inspire them to study at various world class institutes of Gujarat."
Principal Secretary, Education, Ms. Anju Sharma highlighted that Gujarat is one of the fastest growing states in India contributing around 8% to India’s GDP and boasts of world class infrastructure, premier higher education institutes, well established industries sector, good connectivity and unique heritage and culture.
The Government of Gujarat is encouraging innovative ideas and start-ups through policies like "Student Startup and Innovation Policy". During the last 15 years the number of universities in the state has grown from less than 10 to more than 75.
During his address, Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, " Gujarat is home to about 70 plus Universities, and is home to several institutes of national importance such as Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology - Surat, National Institute of Design - Ahmedabad, Physical Research Laboratory - Ahmedabad, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India Gandhinagar. The State caters to over 8 lakh students in the Higher Education institutions out of which around 10,000 are from foreign countries." The state has set up universities in niche areas like forensic sciences and teacher education which are getting good response.
The Honourable Minister of Education held one to one interactions with representatives of educational institutes including GEMS Education, Skyline University Sharjah, DPS and Sharjah Indian School, Sharjah. All of them were impressed with the strides made by Gujarat in the education sector and showed keen interest in developing partnerships with the universities operating in the state.
Two MOUs were signed during the first day of the roadshow. The first one was between Gujarat University and Identity Branding Firm and the second one was between R.K. University and Identity Branding Firm.
The delegation will visit various schools and universities during the next two days like Delhi Private School, Indian High School, Skyline University, the Sharjah Indian School and Our Own English High School Dubai and Dubai University.
