KCO celebrates 16th anniversary with Mangalorean Day 2010

Abu Dhabi, April 17: Mangalorean Day 2010, a day-long cultural festival, was organized at Abu Dhabi Sheraton on April 16, Friday. The programme was organized by the Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO) to celebrate its 16th anniversary.

The cultural programme was a fusion of the best songs, dances, music, and variety entertainment shows of Mangalore, Mumbai, and Goa. The venue was packed with spectators and many had to return disappointed because they could not get tickets. 


The programme commenced at 11:00 a.m. with a prayer by Fr Anthony Lopez, the spiritual director of Konkani Cultural Organization. The master of ceremonies was Leslie Rego, who had specially arrived from Manglore to perform the role. The entertainment commenced with a tribute to the legendary Konkani singer Mr. Wilfred Rebimbus, who expired on March 9, 2010. 


The entertainment programme comprised 3 parts. During the first part, singers such as Adolf Jayatilak, Prakash, Lavita, Lorna, Lawry, and Kenny presented popular songs, followed by a brief presidential address by Gerald D’Mello, the current president of KCO. 


M K Lokesh, the new ambassador designate to UAE, gave a surprise visit to the venue with Dr. B R Shetty of the NMC Group. 

The second session comprised songs by Goan Nightingale Lorna and the award-winning singer Lawry Trovaso. Norman, the veteran musician from Goa, provided excellent music for Lorna, Kenny, and Lawry. The popular UAE band “Sweet Melodies” also presented a performance. 


The Baila and Mando was the climax of the day; and people danced to their hearts content till 6:30 p.m. The programme concluded with the traditional Laudate.
