Bahrain Oct 30 2014: The Indian Club, Bahrain is proudly celebrating its centenary year with a ‘100 Days Centenary Celebration Programme’ of cultural, sporting and festive activities, competitions and functions.

The Centenary Celebration Programme, which will start on October 24 and culminate on January 30 next year, has been designed to encompass all aspects of Indian culture and will involve over 500 VVIP guests and participants from India, ranging from Government and State Ministers to stars of stage and screen to sporting greats.

A key aspect of the Programme is the inclusion of State specific programmes with each of the main Indian State based communities in Bahrain presenting a range of activities that are representative of its individual history, culture and festivals.

As the first of the State based activities and to celebrate ‘Yaksha Vaibhava 2014’, the Bahrain Kannada Sangha in association with The Indian Club-Bahrain will be presenting the musical dance drama ‘Yakshagana’ on Friday, October 31 at The Indian Club-Bahrain premises – the show will start promptly at 5.30pm and entry is free.

Seven well known professional artists have been specially flown in from India for the show and together with around 30 amateur artists from Bahrain, they will perform two different forms of Yakshagana - Tenku and Badagu -as a Diwali treat for the lovers of the art.

“The Yakshagana show is a major event in our calendar and there are hundreds of committed fans for this art form. We have received a good response for the show and this is our Diwali present to our members and all lovers of traditional Indian art forms,” said the Sangha President Rajesh Shetty.

The visiting Tenku thittu artists -Radhakrishna Navada Madhur, Shashidara Kulal with his mesmerizing dance style and Ganesh Kudupadi on the chende - along with the local Sangha artists will be playing “Indrajithu Kalaga”.

The other visiting Badagu thittu artists - Bagavatha Heranjalu Gopala Ganiga, Nilkodu Shanker who will play the lady character and captivating musicians, Sunil Bhandari and Narasimha Hegde - will join with local Sangha artists to perform “Basmasura Mohini”.

“The seven visiting artists will be the real star attractions of the Yakshagana performance and we are looking forward to seeing them perform in Bahrain, it should be a real treat for the 800 or so spectators that we expect to come for the show,” said the Yakshagana show coordinator Ramesh Manjeshwar.
