Karnataka associations in Kuwait hold condolence meet

Mangalore, May 25:  The associations of Karnataka in Kuwait jointly organized a condolence meeting in honor of the plane crash victims at ICSK auditorium in Salmiya on May 24. A large number of Mangalorean expatriates participated in the event. 


The meeting commenced at 7:15 p.m. with a 2-minute silent prayer. Mr. S. M. Basheer made the welcome speech. Mr. B. S. Sharafuddin of KMWA delivered the introductory address, in which he prayed for the souls of the departed as well as appreciated the selfless service of the local people of Mangalore. Mr. Fayaz Sheikh presented a slide show of the tragic incident. Mr. K. Narasing Rao, the counselor of the India Embassy at Kuwait, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family members, friends, and relatives of the plane crash victims. Captain Sanjeev Bhandary, a former pilot at Air India, who now works for Kuwait Airways, spoke about the crash from a pilot’s point of view.  


The heads of all the associations, which had organized the meeting, delivered condolence addresses. The speakers were Mr. Archie Menezes, the vice chairman of the Board of Trustee of Indian Community Schools; Mr. Sagheer Trikaripur, the director of the board of trustees of ICSK; Mr. Swarna Shetty, the president of Tulu Koota, Kuwait; Mr. Rudy D’Souza, the president of Kuwait Canara Welfare Association; Mr. Hasan Yusuf, the president of Karnataka Muslim Welfare Association; Mr. Harsha Rao, the president of Kuwait Kannada Koota; Mr. S. M. Basheer, the president of the Kuwait Kerala Muslim Welfare Association, DK Wing; Mr. Karunakara Shetty, the president of Buntara Sangha, Kuwait; and Mr. Salam Kolnad, the president of Kasargod Expats Association.  


Mr. Ram Babu, the country manager of Air India, expressed his deep sadness on behalf of Air India staff and management. The heads of the associations made a unanimous decision to submit a memorandum to the Aviation Ministry and Air India to improve the infrastructure of Mangalore Airport and to adopt safety measures to avoid such accidents in future.  


Mr. Hasan Yusuf proposed the vote of thanks; and the condolence meeting concluded at 9:00 p.m.
