Kerala woman living in Abu Dhabi wins Big Ticket lottery worth Rs 44.75 crore

Abu Dhabi, Feb 08, 2022: An Indian expatriate woman living in Abu Dhabi has won Rs 44.75 crore in a Big Ticket lottery draw, according to reports.

Leena Jalal, who hails from Thrissur in Kerala, won Dh22 million in the Big Ticket Abu Dhabi Weekly Draw.

In the draw held on 3 February, Jalal’s ticket number 144387 was picked in the ‘Terrific 22 million series 236’.

According to a report by Gulf News, Jalal is a human resources professional who works in Abu Dhabi. She told the publication that she will share the ticket with ten other people and plans to donate some amount to charity.

She wasn’t the only Indian who got lucky that evening. Suraif Suru, another expatriate from Kerala, won Dh1 million after his ticket was picked in the series 236.

Suru, who belongs to Kerala’sMallapuram district, said he will share the prize money with 29 others and contribute a part of it towards helping some of his poor friends.

“I will give some money to my parents. I want to save the rest for my wife and daughter to secure our future,” he told Gulf News.

Last year, a Kerala man working as a driver in Dubai hit a jackpot by winning 20 million dirhams (approximately Rs 40 crore) in a raffle draw in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Ranjit Somaranjan and his nine other associates were declared the joint winners of the prize.

“I have been here since 2008. I worked as a driver with Dubai Taxi and different companies. Last year, I worked as driver-cum-salesman with a company but with my salary deduction, it was a difficult life,” Somarajan told Khaleej Times in 2021.

In July 2020, the principal of Indian High School in Ajman won a lottery worth $1 million in the Dubai Duty-Free raffle draw at Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport.
