Nairobi, Jul 12, 2012: Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore Diocese, visited the Konkani Catholic community in Nairobi on July 7. He was returning to Mangalore after visiting SAME Diocese in Tanzania, when he decided to visit the Nairobi community. He celebrated Holy Mass and had a fellowship meal with them.
Earlier this year, the bishop of SAME had visited Mangalore and formally requested the bishop of Mangalore Diocese for a missionary collaboration.
Since the Western coast of Nairobi is home to a number of missionaries, the bishop decided to spend 2 days with them.
The Holy Mass was celebrated in the premises of the Shrine of Our Lady Consolata, to which the Konkani Catholic community donated a statue of Mary made in Mangalore earlier this June.
The bishop was accompanied by a delegation of four priests, who said that the time they spent in Nairobi was the most memorable part of their experiences in Africa.
After the Holy Mass, the bishop interacted with all the people and expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended to him.
Fr. Mervin SVD made all the arrangements for the bishop’s comfortable stay in Nairobi.
