Mangalore, April 30, 2012 : The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award was conferred on Shravya Suraj Shetty of Grade 6 at Delhi Private School at a glittering award ceremony held recently in Rashid Hall.
Born to Suraj and Arathi Shetty in Mangalore, Shravya said that she owes her success to her faith in god and to her parents who encouraged her to remain motivated and study hard. She also expressed her gratitude to her helpful teachers, who taught her how to channelize her resources in the right direction.
Speaking about her feelings when she learned that she had won the award, Shravya said that it was a dream come true to receive an award from the deputy ruler of Dubai and the UAE minister of finance and industry. She also said that the award has boosted her self-confidence, making her feel good about herself.
She also said that her secret to success is her keen interest in everything, her curiosity, and her desire to know more. She mentioned as her hobbies gardening, philately, art, reading, cooking, swimming, and cycling.
Shravya also actively participates in inter-school and intra-school activities and has won a number of prizes in swimming, public speaking, art and painting, singing, dancing, and others. She has also been recognized as a math quiz champion.
Shravya has also participated in “Light a Billion Lives” campaign and contributed to providing light to a village in India. This was a major campaign initiated by DPS Sharjah, her school, which also encouraged her to become a member of Emirates Environmental Group. She is also associated with Literacy Drive toward the Working Laborers, which she says gave her a lot of satisfaction.
