Dubai, Aug 12: “UAE is a very important trade partner for India. This strong partnership has a long history. Starting from the 1970s, when the business was worth $180 million, it has today grown to $60 billion, making UAE India’s third largest trading partner for 2014-15 behind China and USA. 16th August, 2015 will be a special day in the history of this partnership as that’s when Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi is planning to visit the UAE.
This visit has historic significance, since an Indian Prime Minister is visiting the UAE after 34 years. UAE is the second largest export destination of India with exports amounting to $33 billion.
Similarly India is the largest trading partner of the UAE amounting to $28 billion (non-oil trade). UAE, with $ 8 billion worth investments, is the 10th biggest investor in India. Meanwhile over 2.6 million Indians, living in the UAE, send around $ 15 billion as remittances to India. Apart from meeting the Indian Diaspora, Mr. Modi shall have a high level meeting with the rulers of the UAE in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where bilateral issues, security, trade and investments will be discussed.
