Sharjah, 26 January 2011: The parish priest of St Michael’s Church and the Mangalorean community of Sharjah have come together to form the first-ever Mangalorean Konkani community here.


After much deliberation and rounds of discussion with the community, the parish priest announced the first-ever core committee members of the community.


Speaking on the occasion parish priest Fr Xavier explained the need to have a community in the parish. "It will help us to build our community and also to support our culture and mother language," he said.


Fr Rodson, spiritual director, mentioned that the committee has been formed to conduct activities in a more organised manner.


Uttam Menezes was named the main coordinator and Lawrence D’Souza as the assistant coordinator of the community.

The following members were selected for the core committee:

Uttam Menezes – main coordinator
Lawrence D’Souza – assistant coordinator
Clara D’Cunha - secretory
Peter Paul D’Souza- incharge of spiritual committee
Louis D’Souza and Lawrence D’Souza - incharge of finance committee
Lancy Carlo – incharge of choir
Franky Lobo – incharge of volunteer committee


Alfred D’Souza, Mark Denis D’Souza, Charles Aranha, and Joachim Menezes will be the core committee members and advisors.


Uttam Menezes thanked the people for keeping faith in his abilities and requested complete support from the community.


In order to unite all the Mangaloreans and to form stronger bond the community has planned to stage the play “Sangon Mugdana” on February 24, 2011 at St Michael’s church parish main hall. The play has been written and directed by Pradeep Barboza Paladka.
