Oman, Oct 8: Vivian Sandeep Fernandes and Nirmala Goveas emerged as the winners of the Oman semifinals of Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) II. They will participate in the finals of GVOM II, which is scheduled to be held in Dubai on Oct 22, 2010.
The Oman leg of GVOM II was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Church of Ruwi on Oct 7, 2010. The 12 semifinalists who participated in this competition were all trained by Apolinaris D’Souza.
Lavina D’Sa delivered the welcome address; Fr. Albert D’Silva led the gathering in prayer; and Suraj Rebello, the chief coordinator of GVOM II, welcomed the gathering and promised them an evening packed with entertainment. Monica Dantis, the president of MCCP, escorted Fr. Albert, Valerian Peris, and Leslie Rego to the stage, where they lit the lamp and inaugurated the event. Leslie Rego was the comperer.
The semifinalists who participated in the Oman leg of GVOM II semifinals were Ambrose Ivan Moras, Dilip Correa, Peter Issac D’Souza, Joachim Stephen D’Souza, Vincent D’Souza, and Vivian Sandeep Fernandes in the male category and Anita Lobo, Reena Lobo, Jane Ida Pinto, Nirmala Goveas, and Flavia Castelino in the female category. Victoria Suares, one of the female contestants, could not attend the competition owing to certain unforeseen circumstances. The contestants were accompanied by Sathish Kannur, R. Stanley V. Joseph on the guitar, Baiju Sarsappan on the bass guitar, and Pradeep Radhakrishnan on the electronic drums. Mr. Mohammed Kasim of Harmony Institute, Al Ghubra organized the music.
Monica Dantes honoured Fr. Albert D’Souza; and the core team comprising Stanley Fernandes, Donald Pinto, and Henry Martis honoured judges Claud D’Souza, Joel Pereira, and Reena Goveas. Oswald D’Souza honored the music team. Monica Dantis and Suraj Rebello honoured the 11 semifinalists. Fr. Albert D’Silva thanked and honoured Apolinaris D’Souza. Lancy Lobo proposed the vote of thanks.
A comedy show by Dolla and a performance by Reena D’Souza, Claud, and Joel Periera also formed part of the event.
