Dubai, Oct 05 2019: Thousands gather at Zabeel Park & India Club to celebrate the festival of Navratri as to Gulf news.

 Women dressed in colourful traditional attire perform a folk dance during the Navratri celebrations at India Club. Indian expats on Thursday gathered at Zabeel Park and India Club to celebrate the festival of Navratri, which translates to ‘nine nights’ and marks the Hindu deity Durga’s victory over a demon king.

A couple performs the dandiya raas although not knowing the moves was no reason not have a good time at the Zabeel Park. Gulf News photographers joined the celebrations featuring groups of men and women performing the ‘dandiya raas’, a dance involving the tapping of sticks carried by dancers in both hands to a rhythmic beat. The modern version called ‘disco dandiya’ uses contemporary disco music mixed with traditional tunes.
