Manama, Bahrain, 17 December 2010: The cultural heritage of India’s Karnataka state will be on display at the ‘Kannada Vaibhava 2010’, a mega event to be organized by the Kannada Sangha at the Al Raja School, Manama here on Friday December 17.
Top artists, writers and entertainers from Karnataka will present a diverse range of activities at the show which is expected to draw around 2,000 people. The Kannada Vaibhava, the grandeur of Kannada, will commence at 2.30 pm.
Award-winning dramatist, film and TV actor Kasaragodu Chinna will lead a seven-member troupe to present two short plays. They will also give a mime show. Multi-faceted Chinna, who is visiting Bahrain for the fourth time, has been a member of both Karnataka Natak Academy and Kerala Sangeet Natak Academy. He has been involved in several Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu, Konkani and English dramas.
Well-known magician and ventriloquist R Indushree will participate in the programme with her dolls. Indushree has more than 3,000 shows all over the world to her credit in the last 15 years. Indushree, believed to be India’s first woman ventriloquist, uses current affairs as a peg in her dialogues. She already has etched her name in the Limca Book of Records and has set her eyes on entering the Guinness Book of World Records through her performance with a 10 feet doll. She is also an accomplished magician.
Other artists who will take part in the Sangha’s annual event are Ramnath Narasimhamurthy, a noted stand-up comedian and Pattabhirama, a mimicry and shadow-play artist. Sangha’s artists will present a unique show titled ‘Karnataka Darshana’ - a glimpse of the state’s history and heritage. There will also be music by Bahrain’s leading singer Vijaya Sathyanarayana and team.
“Our annual mega event Kannada Vaibhava is to showcase the cultural diversity of the state. The show has already drawn much interest from the people of the state. We are expecting a packed audience,” said Sangha president Rajkumar.
“I urge people from Karnataka and from other Indian states to utilize the golden opportunity to witness the grand cultural event,” he added. The show, for which entry is free, will be inaugurated by Dr Sunder Naik, additional principal chief conservator of forests, Karnataka.
