Oman, Sept. 28, 2012: The people of Karnataka, who live in the Sultanate of Oman, honored Padma Bhushan Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, on the evening of September 27, Thursday at Al Falaj Hotel in Ruwi.
Dr. Heggade and other dignitaries were welcomed with a traditional Indian band. Important people such as Sheikh Kanakshi Gokuldas Khimji, veteran entrepreneur in Oman and supporter of Indian culture; Dr. Sathish Nambiar, leader and chairperson of the Indian Social Club; Kiran Asher, managing director of Al Ansari Group; Arun Parakh, Baniya community leader; and others formed part of the welcome procession.
The members of the organizing committee presented floral bouquets to Dr. Heggade and the other dignitaries. Kalladi Shankar Shetty, a member of the organizing committee, spoke about Dr. Heggade.
Shekh Kanakshi Khimji then placed a sandalwood floral garland around Dr. Heggade’s neck. Kirar Asher honored him with a shawl, and Dr. Sathish Nambiar presented a basket of fruits to Dr. Heggade. Mallar Shashidhar Shetty then presented a memento to Dr. Heggade.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Heggade said that he is grateful to the people of Karnataka who live in Oman. He also expressed his appreciation of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said for his benevolence toward NRIs in Oman and urged Indians to become responsible toward their country and society.
