Dubai, Nov 22, 2012 : The Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates (BDNE) celebrated its 15th anniversary at Jumeirah Ball Room of Crown Plaza Hotel in Dubai.
The one-day event began at 10:30 a.m. and the guests were escorted to the main stage by a small procession of drummers while ladies holding trays bearing flowers and lit lamps stood on either side.
Shodhan Prasad was the MC, and shortly after he came on stage, Praveen Attavar, vice president of the BDNE, delivered the welcome address followed by a Poorna Kumbha Swagatha Nrithya.
The event featured a number of dance presentations such as Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Narayanam, Koti Chennayya Nrithya Prahasana, a Bollywood dance show called Rowdy Rathore, and others.
One of the highlights of the event was a buffet, accompanied by karaoke singing by Akshatha Rao and Rajesh Ballal.
The formal stage ceremony began with Mohan Attavar inviting the guests Sadanand Suvarna, Ganesh Bangera, Jayanand Mugga, Chandrashekhar Nanil, BDNE President Jithendra Suvarna, and Vice President Praveen Kumar on the stage.
BDNE General Secretary Madhav Poojary presented the annual report.
Sadanand Suvarna, a noted film personality, along with Praveen Attavar and Jeethendra Suvarna honored the sponsors of the program. Later, student achievers who had scored good marks in 2012 were honored. Vidhwan Natayaacharya Suresh Attavar and his daughters Mayuri Attavar and Shruthi Attavar were honored in recognition of their dance achievements.
Mr. Uday Kumar then presented the BDNE scholarship event report and Mohan Attavar presented details of the recently created BDNE Trust.
Chief guest Sadananda Suvarna then released the souvenir Suvarna Kedage, after which Jitendra Suvarna felicitated him with fruits, flowers, shawls, and mementos. The others who were similarly felicitated were Ganesh Bangera, Karia Poojary, and Shodhan Prasad.
Jayanand Mugga spoke about the Guru Charitable Trust. He said that the trust is distributing scholarships among several poor people, adding that the members of the trust go out of their way to identify needy students and the amount they need to continue their education. So far, the BDNE has never refused financial assistance to any needy student, he added.
A 15-minute video of BDNE’s scholarship distribution ceremony, which was held at Kudroli Temple in Mangalore, was shown on the occasion, with Udaya Kumar Kateel, educational secretary of BDNE, making the required explanations.
General Secretary Madhav Poojary gave away sports awards to Apoorva Gopal (junior champion girls), Shravan Sathish (junior champion boys), Manjula Nagaraj (senior champion ladies), and Ramanand Suvarna (senior champion men).
BDNE top achievers of 2012 such as Sunitha Kariya Poojary, Krishna Poojary, Deepa Jagannath, and Nagaraj Amin were presented awards.
Jeethendra Suvarna proposed the vote of thanks.
