Curtains drawn to Mangalore Konkans Celebrations 25

Dubai, Oct 26, 2013 : Curtains were drawn to the yearlong programmes to mark ‘Celebrations 25’ the silver jubilee of  Mangalore Konkans at a grand valedictory function held at Hotel Crown Plaza, Dubai in the presence of an august gathering including a host of dignitaries.


JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South constituency, MK Lokesh, Ambassador to the UAE,  Dr BR Shetty, Chairman of UAE Exchange, renowned philanthropist Ronald Colaco, James Mendonca, Aboline D’Cunha, President and Vice President respectively of Mangalore Konkans, lit the traditional lamp to mark the inaugural of the grand event. Later there was a ceremonious cake cutting function.

JR Lobo who presided over the event, said he was immensely pleased to take part in the function  and was all praise for the various  welfare and service initiatives of Mangalore Konkans. He also made a request to Mangaloreans based in Dubai to  come forward to contribute their mite towards development of the DK district into a tourist hub.


  On this occasion, ‘Konkani Ratn’ title was conferred on eminent philanthropist and entrepreneur Ronald Colaco. Several  luminaries including Lawrence Mendonca,an outstanding entrepreneur in UAE,  Padmashree B. R.Shetty,  Chairman of UAE Exchange and Vincent  Fernandes  who has made significant contribution to Konkani language, culture and music were  felicitated on the occasion.

A new fund was instituted  to commemorate the silver jubilee year wherein sponsors and donors would contribute towards humanitarian and social causes in Dakshina Kannada.

 The valedictory function also featured a host of entertainment programmes.  Super hit songs by  Lorna, Rony D’Cunha, Munita Veigas, Melwyn D’Souza along with foot tapping music by Romiro left the audience thrilled.

Former presidents of Mangalore Konkans were also felicitated. The programmes concluded with a Baila session.
