Dubai, Feb 2, 2015: A thrilling cricket match was played between Karnataka Ministers XI and Thumbay Group XI at the Thumbay Sports Ground at Gulf Medical University on Friday January 30 as part of Bearys Sports Festival hosted by Bearys Cultural Forum.
After winning the toss, Thumbay Group’s captain, Thumbay Moideen, founder president of Thumbay Group, elected to bat first. The team scored 76 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted ten overs. Starting brightly, Thumbay XI scored 45 in the first four overs, before a tight bowling by the Ministers XI ensured the former couldn’t score the bigger total.
In the second innings, the Ministers XI, captained by Karnataka’s Minister of Youth Services & Fisheries, K Abhayachandra Jain started cautiously and leveled the given target by accelerating towards the end to finish the game only in eight overs at the loss of 3 wickets. The Ministers XI also featured other prominent dignitaries including Karnataka’s Minister of Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader, who was the vice-captain of the team and member of Legislative Assembly Moideen Bava.
The game was part of the larger Bearys Sports Festival that hosted a series of other sporting events like football, Kabbadi, badminton, track events in addition to a series of family entertainment and curricular activities.
The festival culminated with a grand prize distribution that honoured the ministers and winners of the various competitions.
Before the start of the festival, ministers and MLA, along with other dignitaries were taken on a tour of Gulf Medical University.
