New Delhi, July 25, 2023: Soon after PM Modi took a jibe at the opposition alliance called I.N.D.I.A, which is made up of as many as 26 parties, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit back, saying he could call them "whatever" but the alliance would "heal" Manipur.

Taking to Twitter, he said, "Call us whatever you want, Mr. Modi. We are INDIA." Attacking the BJP over the ongoing violence in Manipur, Gandhi said that the Opposition’s mega alliance will "rebuild" the idea of India in Manipur.

"We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will bring back love and peace for all her people. We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur," he further tweeted.

Rahul’s rebuttal came after PM Modi slammed the Opposition alliance, saying using the word ’India’ would not work as the “East India Company had also used India and India was also in the name of Indian Mujahideen”.

PM Modi cited the history of several organisations, including some banned extremist and terror outfits using the country’s name, and panned the grouping as a collection of corrupt leaders and parties.

PM Modi’s jibe came as he addressed BJP’s Parliamentary party meeting this morning. He said that he had never seen such a “directionless opposition”.

Before Rahul, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also hit back at the prime Minister for his remarks, during the fourth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He said, “We are asking for a debate on Manipur but PM Modi is talking about the East India Company.”

During his address this morning, PM Modi also said that the attitude of the Opposition seems to be such that they do not have the desire to remain in power for a long time.

Opposition formed an alliance ahead of the general elections next year and termed it ’I.N.D.I.A’ or the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.
