Bengaluru, Dec 29, 2023: As the controversy surrounding Karnataka BJP MLA’s claim that former Chief Minister Yediyurappa was involved in a mega Covid scam intensifies, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated on Thursday that MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal should submit the documents supporting the allegations to the enquiry commission.

The senior BJP MLA Yatnal alleged on Wednesday that Rs 40,000 crore was misappropriated during the Yediyurappa-led previous BJP regime at the time of Covid.

In response to this revelation, Siddaramaiah stated that if there is a genuine intention to punish the guilty, the MLA should present the documents before the Justice John Michael Cunha Committee Commission of enquiry.

Yatnal, a prominent figure in Karnataka BJP and a former union minister, has been publicly making open allegations against Yediyurappa and his son Vijayendra recently.

Targeting the former Chief Minister two days ago, he alleged “One mask costs Rs 45. How much did Yediyurappa bill the government? He billed Rs 485. He (Yediyurappa) has looted thousands of crores of rupees. Rs 40,000 crore rupees were looted. They billed Rs 8–10 lakhs for one corona patient.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge also urged Yatnal to make the documents related to the scam public.

"Yatnal has said that if he is expelled from the BJP then he will release all the documents (related to Covid mismanagement). I appeal to him through the media to please make the documents public, keeping in mind the people of Karnataka and to safeguard their interests," news agency PTI quoted Kharge.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka BJP said that the party “won’t tolerate activities damaging party dignity”.

State BJP General Secretary P Rajeev said the issue was discussed at length during the BJP office bearers’ meeting held under the leadership of state President BY Vijayendra.
