New Delhi, May 15, 2020: Hundred deaths and more than 3,967 cases of the novel coronavirus were recorded in India in the last 24 hours, ending Friday morning.
India has registered 84,712 coronavirus cases, data from state health departments showed on Friday, crossing the COVID-19 tally of China where the virus emerged late last year. India now is ranked 11th in the world in terms of coronavirus cases. While the death toll climbed to 2,649.
The total coronavirus cases in India on Friday morning included 51,401 active cases, while 27,920 recovered and discharged, the Ministry of Health stated. One patient has migrated, it said.
The recovery rate in India has improved to 34.06 per cent.
On Thursday, India reported 3,722 new coronavirus cases and 134 deaths in 24 hours with total cases in the country at 78,003. The death toll stood at 2,549.
Maharashtra, meanwhile, continues to be worst-hit state in India. As on Friday morning, the Maharashtra tally stood at 27,524 while the death toll past the 1,000-mark. Over 6,000 people have recovered in Maharashtra so far.
Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu at 9,674, Gujarat at 9,591, Delhi at 8,470, Rajasthan at 4,534, Madhya Pradesh at 4,426, and Uttar Pradesh at 3,902.
Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of fatalities at 1,019, followed by Gujarat (586), Madhya Pradesh (237), West Bengal (215), Rajasthan (125), Delhi (115), Uttar Pradesh (88), Tamil Nadu (66) and Andhra Pradesh (48).
The death toll climbed to 35 in Karnataka and 32 in Punjab.
