13-year-old arrested for raping 9-year-old in Bangalore

Bangalore, jan 9, 2014: The Bangalore police have arrested a 13-year-old boy - a school dropout - for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl.

The incident, which took place last Saturday on Begur Road, had sent shockwaves in the city. The crime took place when the victim was returning from school in the afternoon.

The police claimed this is for the first time that a 13-year-old boy had been arrested on charge of raping a minor girl.

"On Saturday when the victim was walking home on a desolated stretch, the accused stalked her. Later, he covered her head with a towel and took her to a building under construction and raped her. The victim returned home and complained to her grandmother about the incident. The victim is undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital," Bangalore City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said.

The police formed eight teams to probe the incident. It was suspected that an adult had committed the crime, but when the police recorded the victim’s statement, they learnt that a minor was involved.

"We visited the scene of crime and obtained vital evidences, including the accused’s footwear. Medical examination has confirmed that the accused raped the minor girl," a police officer said.
