14 arrested, Rs 1.18 cr seized in CCB raid on Hawala ring

Bengaluru, Jan 11, 2016, DHNS: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have arrested 14 persons and seized Rs 1.18 crore of Hawala money.

The CCB officials said based on credible information, they raided Mahaveer Bullions on CT Street in Nagarathpet, arrested 14 persons and seized Rs 1.18 crore in cash, two currency counting machines and 25 mobile phones.

The prime accused, Dharmendra, owned the shop and his associate Champalal and others were acting as middlemen. They used to collect from and hand over the money to various people from across the State and the country. Also, they were involved in converting black money to white. They used to charge Rs 300 to 400 as commission for every lakh, added the officials from CCB.

A case has been registered at the Halasurugate police station and investigation is being carried out.
