New Delhi, Dec 10, 2021: Two more people have tested positive for the Omicron Covid variant in Gujarat after one South Africa returnee tested positive for Covid with the new variant on December 4. With this, India’s total cases of Omicron touched 25.
On December 4, a person who travelled from Zimbabwe to Gujarat’s Jamnagar tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus. The new cases have been detected in his contacts.
The genome sequencing revealed that the person was infected with the newly discovered Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The South Africa returnee is fully vaccinated. At least 10 people who came in contact with him had been quarantined and tested.
Top officials of Health Ministry on Thursday informed a parliamentary panel that there are 23 cases of Omicron variant of Covid-19 and authorities are closely monitoring the situation, government sources said.
The health officials gave a detailed presentation on Omicron variant and other issues related to COVID-19.
