Chandigarh , Apr 19, 2017: A 21-year-old resident of Sector 52, Ajit Kumar, collapsed to death during his routine morning jog at the Nature Park in Phase 8 on Tuesday morning (about 6.45am). The incident came to light when morning walkers noticed the young man, a call centre employee, laying comatose on the floor.
The police rushed him to SAS Nagar civil hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Doctors at the hospital told the police Kumar had died of a heart attack.
Phase 10 councillor Gurmeet Singh Walia, who was in the park at the time, said, “I saw the young man collapse while he was jogging. One of the morning walkers happened to be in the park and he tried to revive him. The police was called and the guard went along with the police team that carried the victim to the hospital.”
Police sources said initial inquires had revealed Kumar was a regular jogger.
Phase 8 SHO Jarnail Singh said, “The victim was identified by the evening and his family was informed. Prima facie, it is seen that he died of a heart attack. His parents have told us that he never had such a problem earlier.”
His father Lallan Singh, a carpenter, identified the body at the civil hospital. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem on Wednesday.
