New Delhi, April 13, 2024: As many as 22 flights were diverted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport between 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm on Saturday due to bad weather. The national capital witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday evening impacting a few flight operations.
According to an official, 9 flights of IndiGo, 8 flights of Air India, and 3 flights of Vistara were among those that were diverted.
Of the 22 Delhi-bound flights, nine were diverted to Jaipur, eight to Lucknow, two to Chandigarh, and one each to Amritsar, Ahmedabad and Varanasi.
The IGI Airport in the national capital handles around 1,300 flight movements on a daily basis.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in many parts of Delhi-NCR including Bahadurgarh, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Manesar and others.
“Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain with heavy intensity rain over isolated places and gusty winds with speed of 30-50 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi, NCR ( Bahadurgarh, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Manesar) Meham,” IMD wrote in an X post.
Delhi’s Regional Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy weather with light rain and thundershowers in the national capital on Sunday as well.
