Palani, June 5, 2013: 24 pilgrims, who were trapped in two cable cars nearly 100 feet above the ground, were rescued in a two-hour-long operation today, official sources said.
The cable cars, meant to transport pilgrims from the hill base to Sri Dhanayuthapaniswamy temple in Palani, developed a technical snag and stopped mid-way, sources said.
Rescue teams rushed to the site within 30 minutes and tried to bring down people with the help of ladders. However, when this attempt failed, fire and rescue services were called in and the pilgrims were rescued.
In 2007, four people had died after two cable cabins of a cable car collided
