Kupwara, Nov 19, 2022: Three jawans of the Indian Army’s 56 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) died on Friday after coming under an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The avalanche hit a patrol party in Kupwara’s Machil sector.
According to the Defense Public Relations Officer (PRO) in Srinagar, two jawans were stuck in the snow who were then later taken to the military hospital in Kupwara. Another jawan who was part of the patrol party developed hypothermia and was also taken to the hospital. However, all the jawans succumbed to their injuries.

The three jawans who died have been identified as Souvik Hajra, Mukesh Kumar and Gaikwad Manoj Laxman Rao.
Their mortal remains were taken to the military hospital in Drugmulla.
Following the incident, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took to Twitter to express his condolences and said, "The nation will always be indebted to their supreme sacrifice."
