3 soldiers injured in blast at Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian

Shopian, June 02, 2022: At least three soldiers were injured in a blast at Shopian’s Sedow in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Thursday, June 2. The explosion took place in a private vehicle which was hired.

While speaking with India Today, IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said, "Senior police say it is not a sticky bomb. Though the input was that the battery of the vehicle exploded. (Battery blast). Police suspect that there was an IED already kept in the vehicle."

He said, "Sometimes private vehicles are used by forces for travelling or covert operations but usually are thoroughly checked."

The Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet quote Kumar as saying, "A blast took place inside a private hired vehicle at Sedow, Shopian. 3 soldiers were injured, and shifted to hospital. Nature and source (blast due to grenade or already planted IED inside vehicle or malfunctioning of battery) of blast being investigated, and will be shared: IGP Kashmir."

The soldiers have been hospitalised and a forensic team is enroute.
